Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
This trip starts off with your morning breakfast at the hotel and pick up by your tour guide for a drive to volcanoes national park. Driving Northwest to Musanze province, you will enjoy a panoramic view over Rwanda’s rolling hilling covering the country side all in thick green vegetation. If you wish, take a Kigali city tour visiting; Gisozi genocide grounds, national museums as well as craft shops and local markets for suveniours. Later continue with your drive to the park, reaching in the evening. Check in at your lodge and relax. Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking and a Cultural Tour to Iby’wacu
Enjoy breakfast and head to the Kinigi park offices where you will be briefed on the gorilla trekking rules,
guidelines and the code of conduct when within the apes’ vicinity. You should always keep calm, silent and still when with these creatures, always keep away from the gorillas at 7 meters feet even in cases where the baby gorillas may try approaching you, to avoid distracting them and for safety measures. The dominant silverback is the leader of the group and always looking out for its family members. On meeting the gorillas, enjoy an hour observing them and taking photographs. At the end of this remarkable encounter, retrieve to the starting point; meet your guide for your return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch. Later, head out for a guided community and nature walk of visit the Iby’wacu Cultural village -enjoying the local entertainment, dance and drama. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Forest National Park
Following your breakfast, you will set off for the Rwanda – Ugandan border via Cyanika. Proceed with your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Rainforest National Park. Bwindi is habituated by 12 gorilla family groups which can be tracked at any time of the year such as the Mubare, Mishaya, Nkuringo and Habinyanja among others. Take note to hike for a less strenuous group for not so physically fit to avoid walking a long distances within the water logged and muddy forest. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and rest for tomorrow/ go out for a guided forest walk and visit the nearby towns and markets. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Forest Camp / Bakiga Lodge
Day 4: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi and Visit to the Batwa Pygmies
This is your second day of mountain gorilla trekking.
Rise early, have breakfast and head to Bwindi park headquarters for briefing on mountain gorilla trekking within Bwindi forest. Here you will be provided with highlights on the trekking rules and guidelines and what to expect on your expedition. Set off for your search, this may last between 1 hour to several hours depending on the day’s movement of the apes since they are always on the move searching for food, water and even shelter. In this wilderness, watch out for other interesting wildlife and bird species. On locating them, keep at 7 meters away, avoid direct eye contact, keep silent and get your camera ready for your interaction. You see them playing, eating, teasing each other, sleeping and nurturing their young ones peacefully in your presence. After this amazing encounter, retrieve to the starting point, meet your guide and return to your lodge. In the afternoon, go for the Batwa cultural visit. They are the early human dwellers of the Bwindi forest whose lifestyle depended on the forest but were sent out by the conservation program. Learn about their culture, hunting skills, traditional dance and drama, songs and poetry among others. Later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Wake up early, enjoy your morning coffee and get ready for a transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park.
Enjoy your drive via the Ishasha sector viewing the unique tree climbing lions and other wild game. Upon arrival at Queen Elizabeth National Park, engage in an evening game drive which rewards you with clear views of several wildlife such as kobs, topis, various antelope species, buffalos and elephants. Later dine and rest at Mweya Safari lodge (luxury), Enganzi lodge (deluxe) for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kalinzu at Kazinga Channel Launch Cruise
Have breakfast and head for Kalinzu Forest Reserve for chimpanzee tracking. Chimpanzees are other close relatives of human beings sharing about 98% of human DNA. They are quite interesting creatures as they hide behind the thick tree branches. Return midmorning from your hunt, have lunch and relax. Later in the afternoon, go for an amazing boat ride along the Kazinga channel watching various wildlife like Elephants, buffalos, kobs, topis, water bucks, bush bucks, crocodiles and hippopotami. For birders, this is a wonderful opportunity to clear views of various bird species even those endermic to the Albertine rift. Dine and rest at the Lodge.
Day 7: Morning Game Drive and Transfer to Rwanda
Rise early and embark on a morning game drive to get a glimpse of the early risers and late night hunters before moving deep into the savanna grassland and as they return to their dens in the morning respectively. This drive will reward you with the kings of the jungle –the lions,, leopard, hyenas, jackals, buffalos, bushbucks , elephants gazelles, among others. Later return to your lodge and check out for your transfer to Rwanda. I there’s time, have a Kigali tour to some craft shops and local markets for souvenir and drop off at the airport or hotel later.
