Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Kick off your tour with a pick up by our company tour guide from either your hotel or airport and set off for Volcanoes national park found in the north western part of the country in Musanze province. If time allows, you may engage in a Kigali city tour visiting; Gisozi genocide grounds, national museums as well as craft shops and local markets for suveniours. Later continue with your drive to the park, reaching in the evening. Check in at your lodge and relax. Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Visit to Iby’wacu Village / Twin Lakes (Burera & Ruhondo)
Rise early, have your breakfast and head to the Kinigi park offices at 7:00 am for registration and briefing on the mountain gorilla trekking rules and code of conduct. At the park offices, be sure to get your tracking group, backpack porter, and walking stick to aid movement along the steep slippery slopes of the volcanoes. Once all is set, descend to your gorilla family group trail and start your search for these amazing creatures through the Virunga ranges. The hunt may last between 1 hour to several hours depending on the day’s movement of the apes since they are always on the move searching for food, water and even shelter. In this wilderness, watch out for other interesting wildlife and bird species. On locating them, keep at 7 meters away, avoid direct eye contact, keep silent and get your camera ready for your interaction. You see them playing, eating, teasing each other, sleeping and nurturing their young ones peacefully in your presence. After this amazing encounter, retrieve to the starting point, meet your guide and return to your lodge. In the afternoon, set out for a visit to either the Iby’wacu Cultural Village or to the beautiful twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. Day 3: Transfer to Kibale forest National Park
This is your last day in Volcanoes; wake up, have breakfast, and get ready for your trip to Uganda to Kibale forest National Park. En route, view the scenic views of the Rwenzori ranges; visit the Tooro palace, a few to mention. You will reach in the evening just in time for dinner and overnight at Chimpanzee guest house (budget), Crater safari lodge (midrange), Kyaninga lodge (luxury)
Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking and Bigodi Swamp Visit
Rise early and report to the Kibale headquarters for registration and briefing on the chimps tracking adventure. With your tracking gear, enter into the forest for your hunt, looking out for other primates like the velvert and blue monkeys, baboons, several bird species etc. When you meet them, have an hour taking pictures and videos though clear coverage may be a bit hard as they keep moving in the thick vegetation. After lunch, have a stride to the Bigodi Swamp trail for a clearer birding encounter. Dine and rest at Chimpanzee Guest House (Budget), Crater Safari Lodge (midrange) and Chimpanzee Guest House (Luxury).
Day 5: Return to Kigali
Enjoy your cup of coffee and get ready for the return to Kigali. Once in the city, enjoy the city drive / tour to some historical, economic and political dwellings; national museum, First House of President Habyarima – the starting point of the 1994 Rwanda Genocide after the president’s plane was put down, local markets and craft shops for suveniours. Later drop off at the hotel or airport.
