The 5 days Rwanda gorilla and chimpanzee tracking safari taking visitors to view mountain gorillas in the volcanoes national park and other primates from Nyungwe forest national park in Rwanda. Among the primates to view, expect the chimps, colobus monkeys a, velvert monkeys among others, beautiful colored butterflies and several bird species inclusive of those endemic to the Albertine Rift.
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Following your morning breakfast, you will be transferred to Nyungwe forest national park; found in the south west corner of the country. Nyungwe forest is a home to several primate species like chimps, baboons, colobus and velvert monkeys also a birder’s haven. En route, visit the Butare national museum, Murambi genocide ground and the King’s palace in Nyanza town. You will arrive at Nyungwe park in the evening; Dine and rest at Nyungwe forest Lodge/Nyungwe top view lodge/Gisakura hotel.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking and Forest nature/ canopy walk
Rise early morning, with your cup of coffee, report to the Nyungwe forest park offices for briefing and guidelines on the chimps tracking exercise. Later, start your hunt for chimps through the woods. On your hunt, look out for other primates like the silver monkeys, baboons, velvert monkeys and various bird species. On meeting the chimps, have an hour interacting with them in their natural vicinity while taking photographs and videos. At the end of this encounter, retrieve to your starting point and return to your hotel. Later, after lunch, engage in either a guided forest nature walk or a canopy walk. Dinner and overnight a your lodge.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
At your hotel, you will be picked up by your tour guide following breakfast and set off for Volcanoes national park found in the north western part of the country in Musanze province. If time allows, you may engage in a Kigali city tour visiting; Gisozi genocide grounds, national museums as well as craft shops and local markets for suveniours. Later continue with your drive to the park, reaching in the evening. Check in at your lodge and relax. Day 4: Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Iby’wacu Cultural Visit
After morning breakfast, assemble at Kinigi park offices a briefing on mountain gorilla trekking rules, guidelines and the code of conduct when within the apes’ vicinity. You should always keep calm, silent and still when with these creatures, always keep away from the gorillas at 7 meters feet even in cases where the baby gorillas may try approaching you, to avoid distracting them and for safety measures. The dominant silverback is the leader of the group and always looking out for its family members. On meeting the gorillas, enjoy an hour observing them and taking photographs. At the end of this remarkable encounter, retrieve to the starting point; meet your guide for your return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch. Later, head out for a guided community and nature walk of visit the Iby’wacu Cultural village -enjoying the local entertainment, dance and drama. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 5: Drive Back To Kigali and Departure
Have breakfast and get ready for your drive to Kigali, If you wish, engage in a Kigali city tour to the Nyamata and Ntarama church, national museum, Gisozi genocide ground, president’s first house , together with the local craft shops and markets . And later drop off at either a hotel in Kigali or at the Kigali International Airport for departure flight.
