Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
This excursion begins with your pick up by the company guide from the hotel or airport and hit the road for your trip to Volcanoes national park. This national park is the home to mountain gorillas in Rwanda and it’s found in the northwestern part of the country in musanze province- one of the busiest towns of Rwanda. If you wish, take a Kigali City tour to Gisozi genocide grounds, national museums as well as craft shops and local markets for suveniours. Later, driving northwest wads, you will reach the park in evening. Check in at your lodge and relax. Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Iby’wacu Cultural Visit
After morning breakfast, you will report to the Kinigi park headquarter offices where you will be briefed by the head guide / ranger on the trekking rules, guidelines and the code of conduct when within the apes’ vicinity. You should always keep calm, silent and still when with these creatures, always keep away from the gorillas at 7 meters feet even in cases where the baby gorillas may try approaching you, to avoid distracting them and for safety measures. The dominant silverback is the leader of the group and always looking out for its family members. On meeting the gorillas, enjoy an hour observing them and taking photographs. At the end of this remarkable encounter, retrieve to the starting point; meet your guide for your return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch. Later, head out for a guided community and nature walk of visit the Iby’wacu Cultural village -enjoying the local entertainment, dance and drama. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking and Transfer to Lake Kivu
Have morning breakfast and report to the Kinigi park headquarters for registration and morning briefing on golden monkey tracking is done. You will be provided with tracking guidelines and rules and what to expect on this hike. Together with your guide and tracking gear; engage into the search for golden monkeys through the thick montane forests of Volcanoes national park. During this hike watch out for other primates and wildlife species like baboons and elephants among others. Golden monkeys move in large groups jumping from one tree branch to another but very fascinating to watch in their playful manner. After your encounter with these rare monkeys, retrieve to your starting point; meet your guide for your return to the hotel. Later, hit the road for your transfer to Lake Kivu, En route, visit the Murambi genocide site, King’s palace in Nyanza. Arriving at the Lake shores in the evening, check in at your hotel and relax by the lake side. Day 4: Morning Boat Ride and Departure
Rise to the morning breeze of Lake Kivu, have breakfast and go for a morning boat ride along the L. Kivu waters bringing you to the Nyamirundi Island – a renowned Coffee making Island. Here you will explorer the coffee making process from the harvesting, drying, processing, and parking of the finished product. Later, retrieve ashore and get ready for your drive back to Kigali for departure.
