This 3 Days Rwanda Gorilla trekking tour takes visitors to go hiking in Volcanoes national park – Rwanda’s home to the highly endangered species of wildlife (the mountain gorillas). Volcanoes National park is home to about 500 creatures habituated into 10 gorilla family groups with each restricted to 8 visitors / viewers in a day. In addition to mountain gorillas, volcanoes national park is a home to Dian Fossey’s Remains ( her tomb and the Karisoke Research Center) – the American scientist behind the conservation program for mountain gorillas.
Day1: Travel to Volcanoes National Park
This tour kicks off with a pick up by our tour guide from either your hotel or airport and set off for Volcanoes national park found in the north western part of the country in Musanze province. If time allows, you may engage in a Kigali city tour visiting; Gisozi genocide grounds, national museums as well as craft shops and local markets for suveniours. Later continue with your drive to the park, reaching in the evening. Check in at your lodge and relax. Dine and rest at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (luxury,) Volcanoes Lodge (Super Luxury), Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge / La Palme (Mid-range), Muhabura Hotel (Basic).
Day 2: Mountain Gorillas – Iby’wacu Cultural Tour
Enjoy your early morning cup of coffee and report to Kinigi park headquarters by 7:00 am for briefing from the head guide on all the trekking rules, guidelines and the code of conduct when within the apes’ vicinity. You should always keep calm, silent and still when with these creatures, always keep away from the gorillas at 7 meters feet even in cases where the baby gorillas may try approaching you, to avoid distracting them and for safety measures. The dominant silverback is the leader of the group and always looking out for its family members. On meeting the gorillas, enjoy an hour observing them and taking photographs. At the end of this remarkable encounter, retrieve to the starting point; meet your guide for your return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a Iby’wacu Cultural Tour; enjoy the local entertainment, dance and drama. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Return to Kigali for Departure
This is your last day at Volcanoes National park: wake up, have breakfast at leisure and later set off for Kigali city. If missed the city tour, have an opportunity to one and later be dropped off at either a hotel / airport for departure flight.
