Day 1: Set Off for Volcanoes National Park
Kick off your trip with a pick up by the tour guide from your hotel / airport and drive northwest wards to Volcanoes National park. If you wish, take a Kigali City tour to Gisozi genocide grounds, national museums as well as craft shops and local markets for suveniours. Later continue with your drive to the park, reaching in the evening. Check in at your lodge and relax. Dine and rest at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (luxury,) Volcanoes Lodge (Super Luxury), Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge / La Palme (Mid-range), Muhabura Hotel (Basic).
Day2: Trekking Mountain Gorillas – Afternoon Nature Walk / Cultural Visit
On this eventful day, wake up early, have breakfast and assemble at Kinigi park offices where you will be briefed by the head guide on the trekking rules, guidelines and the code of conduct when within the apes’ vicinity. You should always keep calm, silent and still when with these creatures, always keep away from the gorillas at 7 meters feet even in cases where the baby gorillas may try approaching you, to avoid distracting them and for safety measures. The dominant silverback is the leader of the group and always looking out for its family members. On meeting the gorillas, enjoy an hour observing them and taking photographs. At the end of this remarkable encounter, retrieve to the starting point; meet your guide for your return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch. In the afternoon, head out for a guided community and nature walk of visit the Iby’wacu Cultural village -enjoying the local entertainment, dance and drama. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking – Departure
After your breakfast, reassemble at Kinigi park headquarters for registration and briefing on the golden monkey tracking guidelines. After this, with your tracking gear, embark onto your hike into the forest. During this hike watch out for other primates and wildlife species like baboons and elephants among others. Golden monkeys move in large groups jumping from one tree branch to another but very fascinating to watch in their playful manner. After your encounter with these rare monkeys, retrieve to your starting point, meet your guide for your return to the hotel and set off for Kigali for a drop off at either a hotel or airport.
