2 Day gorilla excursion & Bisoke hike brings tourists to the heights of Mount Bisoke and to wonderful views of its Crater Lake and calderas. Mount Bisoke is among the 8 volcanoes of the virunga ranges about 3711 meters high. It also gives visitors a chance to view mountain gorillas in Volcanoes national park, the home to half of the Virunga existing apes.
Day 1: Hiking Mount Bisoke
The hike to this fog covered peak starts at 7:00 am at the Kinigi offices where registration and briefing on the hike takes place. Hiking Bisoke is quite strenuous over the muddy and slippery steep slopes so it’s advisable to be physically fit and to take back pack porters with you. For experienced hikers, this may last for 3 hours before reaching the top and about 6 hours for the first time hikers. While hiking, keep alert as this may bring you in contact with various inhabitants of the volcanoes like; the mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, elephants and buffaloes among others. Once at the top, you are rewarded with magnificent views of the forest and the Crater Lake. Have lunch, and later descend back to the starting point and return to your lodge. Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Tracking – Return to Kigali City
After early morning breakfast, retrieve to the Kinigi park headquarters by 7:00 am for the morning briefing on the gorilla trekking code of conduct; like keeping silent, staying at a distance of 7 meters away from the creatures. With your packed lunch and trekking gear, ascend into the montane forest in search for these amazing creatures. This may last for minutes or hours according to the day’s movement of the mountain gorillas. Once located, enjoy an hour observing them and taking photographs. At the end of this remarkable encounter, retrieve to the starting point; meet your guide for your return to the lodge and set off for Kigali city for a drop off at a hotel / airport for departure flight.
