The 10 days Rwanda Gorilla safari holiday is a very rewarding tour package that rewards you with an insight into Rwanda’s major national parks ; Akagera, Nyungwe forest and Volcanoes national park. This tour also offers visitors a chance to some of Rwanda’s lakes; Kivu, Burera and Ruhondo.
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera national park
This tour begins with morning breakfast and transfer to Akagera national park. This is found in the north area of Rwanda near the Tanzania Rwanda border. En route, enjoy the beautiful scenic view of the rolling hills and the well terraced hills of the country side. You will reach in the afternoon, have lunch and engage in a game drive to the southern part of the park via Lake Ihema; viewing wildlife like the Spotted Hyenas, Stray lions, zebras, Masai Elephants, Giraffes, Buffaloes, Nile Crocodiles and Hippopotami, among others and lots and lots of bird species for the birders. Later retire to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Morning Launch Cruise and Return to Kigali
Wake up, have breakfast and enjoy a morning launch cruise on the Akagera, through Lake Ihema, taking in various views of large concentrations of crocodiles, hippopotami, elephants, buffalos etc. On this boat ride also watch out for various bird species. Later, set off for Kigali in the afternoon. Dine and rest at your hotel in Kigali
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
In the morning, upon having breakfast, you will set off for Nyungwe forest National park in the south western corner of Rwanda. Nyungwe forest is a home to several primate species like chimps, baboons, colobus and velvert monkeys also a birder’s haven. En route, visit the Butare national museum, Murambi genocide ground and the King’s palace in Nyanza town. You will arrive at Nyungwe Park in the evening; Dine and rest at Nyungwe forest Lodge/Nyungwe top view lodge/Gisakura hotel.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking and Forest nature/ canopy walk
Have breakfast and report to the Nyungwe forest park offices for briefing and guidelines on the chimps tracking exercise. Later, start your hunt for chimps through the woods. On your hunt, look out for other primates like the silver monkeys, baboons, velvert monkeys and various bird species. On meeting the chimps, have an hour interacting with them in their natural vicinity while taking photographs and videos. At the end of this encounter, retrieve to your starting point and return to your hotel. Later, after lunch, engage in either a guided forest nature walk or a canopy walk. Dinner and overnight your lodge.
Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Wake up early, enjoy your morning coffee and set off for Musanze province – the base for Volcanoes national park. When in Musanze town, engage in an evening walk to neighboring towns, communities and volcanoes Later retire at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (luxury,) Volcanoes Lodge (Super Luxury), Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge / La Palme (Mid-range), Muhabura Hotel (Basic) for dinner and overnight.
Day 6 : Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Iby’wacu Cultural Visit
After morning breakfast, assemble at Kinigi park offices by 7:00 am. Here you’ll be briefed on mountain gorilla trekking rules, guidelines and the code of conduct when within the apes’ vicinity. You should always keep calm, silent and still when with these creatures, always keep away from the gorillas at 7 meters feet even in cases where the baby gorillas may try approaching you, to avoid distracting them and for safety measures. The dominant silverback is the leader of the group and always looking out for its family members. On meeting the gorillas, enjoy an hour observing them and taking photographs. At the end of this remarkable encounter, retrieve to the starting point; meet your guide for your return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch. In the afternoon, set out for a visit to the Iby’wacu cultural center.
Day 7: Golden Monkey Tracking and Visit to twin Lakes; Burera and Ruhondo
In the morning after your breakfast, retrieve to the Kinigi park offices where you will be briefed on the golden monkey tracking guidelines. Once done, start off with your hunting adventure hiking through the dense vegetation in search for these amazingly shy monkeys. Unlike mountain gorillas, golden monkeys are not habituated towards receiving visitors which explains their shyness. During your hike, expect to see other wildlife such as buffalos, elephants etc. On locating the golden monkeys, enjoy watching them play, creep, and jump from one tree to another Retrieve to your lodge. In the afternoon, get ready for an evening walk to lakes Burera and Ruhondo. Dine and rest at your lodge.
Day 8: Transfer to Lake Kivu
Have breakfast and set off for Lake Kivu; Rwanda’s largest fresh water lake.nEn route, visit the Murambi genocide site, King’s palace in Nyanza. Day 9: Morning Boat Cruise to Nyamirundi Island and Return to Kigali
Wake up earl and enjoy the morning breeze and calm atmosphere of Lake Kivu. Later engage in an amazing morning boat ride along the L. Kivu waters bringing you to the Nyamirundi Island – a renowned Coffee making Island. Here you will explore the coffee making process from the harvesting, drying, processing, and parking of the finished product. Later, retrieve ashore and get ready for your return to Kigali, reaching in the evening. Dine and rest at the Lodge.
Day 10: Kigali City Tour and Departure
Rise early, enjoy your cup of coffee and embark on a city drive / tour to some historical, economic and political dwellings; national museum, First House of President Habyarima – the starting point of the 1994 Rwanda Genocide after the president’s plane was put down, local markets and craft shops for souvenirs. Later drop off at the hotel or airport.
