1 Day short gorilla tour Rwanda offers tourists an opportunity to trek mountain gorillas in Volcanoes national park. This brief gorilla trip is carried out from Rwanda’s Volcanoes national park which is approximately 2 hours from Kigali city.
Volcanoes National park is habituated by 10 gorilla family groups with each restricted to 8 visitors / viewers in a day. In addition to mountain gorillas, volcanoes national park is a home to Dian Fossey’s Remains – the American scientist behind the conservation program for mountain gorillas.
Day 1: Kigali City – Volcanoes National Park
This tour kicks off with an early morning pick up by your tour guide from the hotel for your transfer to Volcanoes national park. Driving northwest wards to Musanze province, you will enjoy the beautiful scenic views of the rolling hills of the country side; well terraced and covered in green vegetation, reaching the Kinigi park headquarters at 7:00 am.
Upon arrival, you will be briefed by the head guide on all the trekking rules, guidelines and the code of conduct when within the apes’ vicinity. You should always keep calm, silent and still when with these creatures, always keep away from the gorillas at 7 meters feet even in cases where the baby gorillas may try approaching you, to avoid distracting them and for safety measures. The dominant silverback is the leader of the group and always looking out for its family members. On meeting the gorillas, enjoy an hour observing them and taking photographs. Once done, retrieve to the starting point; meet your guide for your return to Kigali city at either the hotel or airport.
