5 Days Rwanda Safari to AKagera wildlife tour rewards you with a game drive through the wild savannah grassland viewing various wildlife species like the lions, African elephants, zebras, antelopes and buffaloes together with a boat cruise over the Akagera waters and Lake Ihema , viewing hippopotami, crocodiles and many other aquarium. Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park
At your hotel, after your cup of coffee, you will be picked up by your tour guide for a transfer to Akagera national park. En route, enjoy the beautiful scenic view of the rolling hills and the well terraced hills of the country side. You will reach in the afternoon, have lunch and engage in a game drive to the southern part of the park via Lake Ihema; viewing wildlife like the Spotted Hyenas, Stray lions, zebras, Masai Elephants, Giraffes, Buffaloes, Nile Crocodiles and Hippopotami, among others and lots and lots of bird species for the birders. Later retire to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Boat Cruise
Rise early, with your cup of coffee, embark on an early morning game drive to catch a glimpse of the early risers before going into their day’s hunt and the late night hunters returning from their night hunt. This takes you to the northern area of the Akagera viewing wildlife like zebras, impalas, hyenas, lions, elephants, jackals etc. Later, engage in an afternoon boat ride on Lake Ihema and River Akagera for clear views of aquatic life like crocodiles, hippos, and several bird species. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
In the morning, have breakfast and get ready for your drive to Volcanoes national park, located in Musanze town, reaching in the evening. Take an evening stride to the nearby communities or even take a hike to the nearby volcanoes. Later retire at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (luxury,) Volcanoes Lodge (Super Luxury), Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge / La Palme (Mid-range), Muhabura Hotel (Basic) for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Iby’wacu Cultural Visit
After morning breakfast, assemble at Kinigi park offices a briefing on mountain gorilla trekking rules, guidelines and the code of conduct when within the apes’ vicinity. You should always keep calm, silent and still when with these creatures, always keep away from the gorillas at 7 meters feet even in cases where the baby gorillas may try approaching you, to avoid distracting them and for safety measures. The dominant silverback is the leader of the group and always looking out for its family members. On meeting the gorillas, enjoy an hour observing them and taking photographs. At the end of this remarkable encounter, retrieve to the starting point; meet your guide for your return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch. In the afternoon, set out for a visit to either the Iby’wacu Cultural Village or to the beautiful twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo.
Day 5: Bisoke Crater Lake Hike and Departure
In the morning, after breakfast, report to the kinigi park offices for briefing and registration on the hike. Hiking Bisoke is quite strenuous over the muddy and slippery steep slopes so it’s advisable to be physically fit and to take back pack porters with you. For experienced hikers, this may last for 3 hours before reaching the top and about 6 hours for the first time hikers. While hiking, keep alert as this may bring you in contact with various inhabitants of the volcanoes like; the mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, elephants and buffaloes among others. Once at the top, you are rewarded with magnificent views of the forest and the Crater Lake. Have lunch, and later descend back to the starting point and return to your lodge and later return to Kigali, en route, visit National museum, Gisozi Genocide Memorial site, craft shops and local markets and later drop off at either the airport / hotel..
