Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Prak
Start off your trip with breakfast at the hotel and get ready for a transfer to volcanoes national park. Driving Northwest to Musanze province, you will enjoy a panoramic view over Rwanda’s rolling hilling covering the country side all in thick green vegetation. If you wish, take a Kigali city tour visiting; Gisozi genocide grounds, national museums as well as craft shops and local markets for suveniours. Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking and a Cultural Tour to Iby’wacu
Enjoy breakfast and head to the Kinigi park offices where you will be briefed on the gorilla trekking rules and guidelines and the code of conduct when within the apes’ vicinity. You should always keep calm, silent and still when with these creatures, always keep away from the gorillas at 7 meters feet even in cases where the baby gorillas may try approaching you, to avoid distracting them and for safety measures. The dominant silverback is the leader of the group and always looking out for its family members. On meeting the gorillas, enjoy an hour observing them and taking photographs. At the end of this remarkable encounter, retrieve to the starting point; meet your guide for your return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch. Later, head out for a guided community and nature walk of visit the Iby’wacu Cultural village -enjoying the local entertainment, dance and drama. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking and Transfer to Lake Kivu
In the morning after breakfast, retrieve the Kinigi park offices where you will be briefed on the golden monkey tracking guidelines. Once done, start off with your hunting adventure hiking through the dense vegetation in search for these amazingly shy monkeys. Unlike mountain gorillas, golden monkeys are not habituated towards receiving visitors which explains their shyness. During your hike, expect to see other wildlife such as buffalos, elephants etc. On locating the golden monkeys, enjoy watching them play, creep, and jump from one tree to another Retrieve to your lodge. In the afternoon, you will set off for Lake Kivu; Rwanda’s largest fresh water lake. En route, visit the Murambi genocide site, King’s palace in Nyanza. Day 3: Golden Monkey tracking and Transfer to Lake Kivu
Rise early, enjoy your breakfast and assemble at the Kinigi park offices for a pre- briefing on the golden monkey tracking code of conduct. They are shy creatures and quite interesting to watch in their playful manner jumping from one tree branch to another. Tracking them can last between 30 minutes to hours according on their movement and once found, enjoy an hour with them and descend the volcanoes at the end of this encounter, meet your guide and return to your hotel for refreshment and lunch. Later in the afternoon, hit the road for Gisenyi province to Lake Kivu – Rwanda’s largest fresh water body and during this drive, enjoy the wonderful views of the rolling hills of the country side and en route, stop over the Murambi Genocide Memorial site and Nyanza and Butare King’s palace, later reaching the lake shores in the evening; enjoy the chilling breeze of the Kivu shores. Day 4: Hike to Nyiragongo Mountain
Upon waking up; have breakfast and hit the road to Congo crossing over via the Kibatsi village and start off with the Nyiragongo hike. This usually goes for a day getting to the top of the Crater Lake but once at the top; take in the beautiful scenic views and the active lava lake. Dinner and overnight at Mount Nyiragongo cottages.
Day 5: Return trip to Kigali and Departure
At the crater peak, have breakfast and slope down the Nyiragongo. Once at the base, report at the offices for registration and later hit the road for your return trip to Kigali for departure.
